A hut overlooking the sea: first class fish and rice in this restaurant in Barcelona.
A waterfront restaurant with good food and even better views
When we think of eating on the seafront, the first thing that comes to mind are the beach bars; authentic spaces on the beach where typical seafood cuisine is made. But the beach bars are outdoors, only open in summer and are full of sand, so if you want to enjoy a good seafood meal, at any time of the year and without renouncing to do it in front of the beach, the restaurant Barraca de la Barceloneta is your ideal choice.
Tables in a gazebo
The restaurant Barraca (Pº. Marítimo de la Barceloneta, 1) is one of the classics of the maritime front of Barcelona. A place that reopens the stoves with an improved offer that maintains the essence of the old restaurant. It is a place open to the sea; despite not being on the beachfront like a beach bar, the terrace outside and the first floor open to the street invite passers-by to occupy the chairs. The best, however, is hidden on the second floor. A spacious dining room with wooden furniture, an open kitchen at the back and large windows with sea views are the ideal setting for a good meal with the family. It is a renovated and bright dining room that includes a small terrace space in a corner of the second floor.
The restaurant's ideal location is matched by the high quality of the food served.
Chef Marcos Bautista and his team are in charge of making magic in the kitchen. One of the most curious particularities of Barraca is the fish on demand service. With 24 hours in advance, diners can call the restaurant to order a fish from the market and have the chef cook it the way they want it: baked, grilled, boiled... A very common service in the time of our grandparents that is now almost impossible to find in Barcelona.
Sightseeing tour, fantastic food
Do not be fooled by the privileged location of the restaurant. We tend to think that the restaurants located on the seafront are tourist places that serve frozen paella. But nothing could be further from the truth. The ideal location of the restaurant is accompanied by the high quality of the food served. Barraca has classic starters of all kinds -such as croquettes, oysters or the traditional bomba de la Barceloneta-, but the strongest point of the menu are the rice and fish dishes.
Special mention for the creamy chocolate with hazelnut heart, a dense, intense and very tasty dish.
The average price of the restaurant is around 40 €, drink included. The most important thing when paying for a meal is to be satisfied. And at Barraca you eat very well. Both the duck rice and the seafood paella are cooked to the point and with balanced flavors. The fish -in this case the sea bass- is not only tender and tasty, but is accompanied by baked potatoes that round off a very good dish. The icing on the cake, however, is the desserts. They are a bit expensive, but they are also exquisite. Special mention for the creamy chocolate with hazelnut heart, a dense, intense and very tasty dish.
