Barraca wins the 2025 Summer Card Game: our rice dishes triumph in the Barcelonès region

Barraca, in Barceloneta, was named the best restaurant for rice dishes in Barcelonès during the summer edition of Jeu de cartes, presented by Marc Ribas on TV3. This fills us with pride because it rewards what we do with passion: taking care of every rice dish, every ingredient, every detail on the plate.

The episode that won us the award

The Jeu de cartes estiu program organized a challenge to find "the best arròs del Barcelonès." It visited three restaurants offering a variety of options: Maysi in Barcelona, Espai Versàtil in Badalona, and Barraca in Barceloneta. Each defended its own ideas with different styles of rice dishes, creative proposals, different cooking techniques, and flavors. In the end, Marc Ribas awarded the victory to Barraca.

The jury evaluated several aspects: the cooking point, flavor, aroma, cleanliness, and presentation. Our rice was considered superior in terms of flavor and technique.

What made our rice different?

As you can see at Barraca, we don't cook rice dishes as simple dishes; each one has a perfected technique, respecting Mediterranean tradition and now, with the grill, a nuance that makes all the difference.

  • The cooking point: the rice was neither dry nor stale, it had the desired softness, with a precise texture.
  • The socarrat (the golden crust on the base) received positive comments, something that many competitors struggled to achieve.
  • The grill was combined with fresh ingredients: seafood, vegetables, and fruit, combinations that balanced the smokiness, natural sweetness, and pure flavor.
  • The aesthetics of the plate also had an influence: a refined presentation, unpretentious yet appealing, which revealed the care taken, the harmony of colors, and the respect for the product.

Reactions, tension, and recognition

This episode wasn't exactly calm. There were moments of tension: direct criticism, comparisons and demands between participants, and even reproaches over technical details. But in the end, the outcome was clear: Barraca was able to withstand the pressure, show consistency, and convince the jury. This award includes public recognition, media coverage (already visible), and, above all, the satisfaction of seeing that what we do in the kitchen—every sofrito, every fumet, every rice dish—resonates beyond our regular customers.
