The iconic Bauma Bar reopens its doors in Barcelona
The establishment closed its doors last September and reopens with the group 'Somos Esencia', which is committed to "maintaining culinary tradition and values."

The iconic Bauma Bar, with more than 50 years of history in Barcelona, is reopening its doors. The establishment, which closed quietly last September, is bringing life back to the people of Barcelona thanks to the group *Somos Esencia, which has acquired the business.
The bar, located at 124 Roger de Llíria Street, has been a classic of local cuisine since its opening in the 1940s and will officially reopen to the public this Thursday, February 1.
With the acquisition of the business, the restaurant group has taken on the responsibility of continuing the Bauma legacy and will maintain part of its 1950s décor. The aim, they explain, is to provide diners with an "authentic experience with a nostalgic touch of the Catalan capital."
Opened after World War II
The founder of Bar Bauma, Joan Altarriba Àguila, opened the establishment after World War II. Since the 1940s, the restaurant has been a meeting place for politicians, actors, writers, and literary figures who have left their mark on this iconic location.

In addition, it has always stood out for its Catalan gastronomic tradition. Altarriba, who started working at the age of 25, has been the "guardian" of Bauma's culinary tradition for years. For this reason, Somos Esencia* assures that it will maintain the foundation that has attracted lovers of good food for years. "We wanted the bar to remain in the hands of someone with the same values as us," says Altarriba.
Decoration of the space
The new Bauma has renovated the style of the premises while maintaining the "classic essence" of the space, with original decorations from its early years of activity. As for the menu, tapas will continue to be its strongest offering.
The bar offers everything from classic appetizers such as ham croquettes, Russian salad, and sweet potato chips to more contemporary dishes such as tuna tataki with guacamole or homemade steak tartare.
“Fresh and renewed touch”
*Somos Esencia's new venture aims to attract Bauma's former clientele and new customers who want to enjoy traditional cuisine with a "fresh and innovative twist."

In their own words, they want to be a place that, in a privileged location, will offer its diners a unique culinary experience that "combines the authenticity of Catalan cuisine with a contemporary touch."
