The iconic Bauma Bar reopens its doors in Barcelona

The establishment closed its doors last September and is reopening with the "Somos Esencia" group, which is committed to "preserving culinary traditions and values."

The iconic Bauma Bar, with over 50 years of history in Barcelona, is reopening its doors. The establishment, which closed quietly last September, is bringing new life to Barcelona thanks to the Somos Esencia group, which has bought the business.

The bar, located at 124 Roger de Llíria Street, has been a staple of local cuisine since it opened in the 1940s and will officially reopen its doors to the public on Thursday, February 1.

With the acquisition of the business, the restaurant group has taken on the responsibility of continuing the Bauma legacy and will retain part of its 1950s décor. The aim, as they explain, is to provide customers with "an authentic experience with a nostalgic touch of the Catalan capital."

Opened after World War II

The founder of Bar Bauma, Joan Altarriba Águila, opened the establishment after World War II. Since the 1940s, the restaurant has been a meeting place for politicians, actors, writers, and literary figures who have left their mark on this iconic location.

In addition, it has always stood out for its Catalan gastronomic tradition. Altarriba, who started working at the age of 25, has been the "guardian" of Bauma's culinary tradition for years. For this reason, Somos Esencia* guarantees that it will maintain the foundation that has attracted lovers of good food for years. "We wanted the bar to remain in the hands of someone who shares the same values as us," explains Altarriba.

Interior design

The new Bauma has revamped the style of the venue while retaining the "classic essence" of the space, with original decorations from its early years. As for the menu, tapas will continue to be their best asset.

At the bar, you'll find everything from classic appetizers such as ham croquettes, Russian salad, and sweet potatoes to more contemporary dishes such as tuna tataki with guacamole or homemade steak tartare.

"A fresh and renewed touch"

*Somos Esencia's new commitment aims to attract Bauma's former clientele and new customers who want to enjoy traditional cuisine with a "fresh and renewed touch."

In their own words, they want to be a space that, in a prime location, will offer its guests a unique culinary experience that "combines the authenticity of Catalan cuisine with a contemporary touch."
