The iconic Bauma Bar reopens its doors in Barcelona

El local cerró sus puertas el pasado mes de septiembre y reabre con el grupo 'Somos Esencia', que apuesta por «mantener la tradición y los valores culinarios».

The iconic Bauma Bar, with more than 50 years of history in Barcelona, reopens its doors. The establishment, which closed quietly last September, is once again bringing life to the people of Barcelona thanks to the group *Somos Esencia, which has acquired the business.

The bar, located at 124 Roger de Llíria Street, has been a classic of local cuisine since it opened in the 1940s and will officially reopen to the public this Thursday, February 1.

With the acquisition of the business, the restaurant group has assumed responsibility for continuing the Bauma legacy and will maintain part of its 1950s decor. The objective, as they explain, is to provide diners withan "authentic experience with a nostalgic touch of the Catalan capital."

Opened after World War II

The founder of Bar Bauma, Joan Altarriba Águila, opened the establishment after the Second World War. Since the 1940s, the restaurant has been a meeting place for politicians, actors, writers, and literary figures who have left their mark on this emblematic place.

In addition, it has always stood out for its Catalan gastronomic tradition. Altarriba, who started working at the age of 25, has been the "guardian" of Bauma's culinary tradition for years. For this reason, Somos Esencia* ensures that it will maintain the foundation that has attracted lovers of good food for years. "We wanted the bar to continue to be in the hands of someone with the same values as us," Altarriba says.

Space decoration

The new Bauma has renewed the style of the place while maintaining the "classic essence" of the space, with original decorations from its first years of activity. Regarding the menu, tapas will continue to be their strongest bet.

At the bar you can find everything from classic appetizers such as ham croquettes, Russian salad, or sweet potatoes, to more contemporary dishes such as tuna tataki with guacamole or homemade steak tartare.

“Fresh and renewed touch”

*Somos Esencia's new commitment aims to attract Bauma's old clientele and new customers who want to enjoy traditional cuisine with a "fresh and renewed touch."

In their words, they want to be a space that, in a prime location, will offer its diners a unique culinary experience that "combines the authenticity of Catalan cuisine with a contemporary touch."
